Nausog Ako...

Out in the Bukod
November 19, 2018
Hey guys! You're probably wondering what the title of my email Translates to... it pretty much means that I had a bad spirit or bad vibes given to me haha. Let me explain:
This story all starts with exchanges. Elder Weaver and I spent a day in Mangaldan on exchanges with the District Leader (Elder Robertson) and his companion (Elder Hirst). The day started off pretty normal; I spent the morning with Elder Hirst. We taught a few lessons and it went pretty good. Then lunch came and the four of us all met at this Korean Restaurant. The food was really good. But it didn't sit too well in my stomach, and my stomach didn't really start to hurt until I was working with Elder Robertson, and we got to the middle of nowhere. I told him I had to go really bad and that I could maybe last another 5 minutes before I "died." We very swiftly walked to this nearby member's house and he was kind enough to let me use his bathroom. I was in there for a LOOOONNNNG time. So long that Elder Robertson came to check on me... "did you fall in buddy?" he asked me. "No.... but we have a problem here." I responded. To sum up the problem, I'll just say that I was able to release, but there was two exits. Elder Robertson was a total stud and cleaned every thing up for me. Still feeling super sick, I managed to walk back over to the Tatay (member, tatay means dad pretty much). He started to check me: he felt my pulse, my ears (which he found out they were cold... which isn't a good sign). I was dripping in sweat, my face lacked color. He left and came back with some coconut oil mixed with peppers. He made me lift up my shirt, so he could rub it on my tummy (super weird haha). He left a second time, but this time he came back with a couple branches of Malunggay leaves. I thought he might be making me a tea or something. I was wrong. He cocked his arm back and started BEATING me with these leaves! He did this for a while.... hitting me on top of my head, in the face, on my shoulders. He also had me smell this leaf from another tree. And surprisingly, after all that... I was fine, and I was able to go to work. The color returned to my face. I wasn't sweating bullets.

Now let me explain why they did all of that haha. So apparently, I was showing a lot of signals that someone had given me a bad spirit. And all the things they did to me, essentially beat the bad spirit out of me. Pretty weird, but it seemed to work haha! (Also remember that this guy held the priesthood so it wasn't witchcraft or anything like that).

Yesterday was Stake conference, it was really good. My mission President and his wife are there. President shared something that I really liked. He said "Satan works very hard, but that just means we need to work harder." I know Satan is working his hardest on me right now. He's telling me I'm not good enough, I'm a horrible missionary, my Tagalog sucks and so on. Because of him I often question why I'm here. He uses my homesickness against me. But there's ABSOLUTELY NO WAY I will let him out work me. No one works harder than me! I testify that through soulful prayer Satan will not be able to out work us. All we need is faith and diligence.

I love you all, I hope you were entertained by my experience this last week haha. Until next week!
